Film Studies Essay: Chasing Amy
Answer One of the following questions in short answer form (2-3 pages).  You will be evaluated on the following criteria: (1) quality of writing—clarity, organization of paper, good intro, good closing, well developed body paragraphs; (2) meaningful integration of lecture and film discussion. Film outline and minutes can be found under the ASSIGNED READINGS tab.
1.      Hooper X is probably the most eccentric character in the film. How does knowing the CONTEXT of his character reinforce social issues of today?
2.      Throughout the film, Holden seems to be on a path of self-discovery.  Give examples of his view of BINARY relationships and how they clash with Alyssa’s point of views. Is he a dynamic character? Does he mature or grow as a person?
3.      One of the themes in the film is the issue of sex.  Do you agree with any of the character’s in their views, or do you have a completely different idea? Use examples in the film to compare/contrast with your own.
