  1. Group 2: Revision Strategies Students Writers
~Students do use the words revision or rewriting
~"most of the students had developed various functional terms to describe the type of changes they made"(Sommers,1980,p.380).
~Scratch Out and Do Over Again
    ~Reviewing
    ~Redoing
    ~Marking Out
    ~Slashing and Throwing Out
~Students use this process to describe the requiring lexical changes but not semantic changes.
~Students handle some of the essay but not the whole essay because they aren't experience.

  2. Group 4: Revision strategies of experienced writers

The experienced writers describe their primary objective when revising as finding the form or shape of their argument.(pg 384)
Most students do not use the terms revision or rewriting ,they say only teachers use those terms, instead they used other various terms such as scratch out or do over again.(pg 380)
The experienced writers emphasize that writing as papoose to speech allows in the possibility of revision. (pg 386)
Two elements of experienced writers theory of the revision process are the adaption of a holistic perspective and the perception that the revision is a recursive process. (pg 386)

  4. Group 1: Intro -
Revision is simply the further growth of what is already there.Current models of writers process have directed attention away from revision.
Gordon Rohmans suggestion that the composing process moves Prewriting to writing to rewriting.
James Brittons model of the writing process as a series of stages described in metaphor of linear growth conception.
I used a case study approach the student writers were 20 freshmen at Boston University and the University of Oklahoma each writer wrote 3 essays, expressive, explanatory and persuasive and rewrote each essay twice, each writer was interviewed 3 times after the first revision. Each writer suggested revisions for a composition. The essay were analyzed. Four revisions operations were identified , deletion, substitution, addition and reordering.
