    “There is a growing consensus in our field that reading should be thought of as constructive rather than as receptive process: that meaning does not exist in a text but in readers and representations they build” (Haas & Flower, 1988, pg. 167).
    Basically, Haas & Flowers are saying, they want students to read the article and grasp that they can, educate students “to a more complex rhetorical model.” (Haas & Flower, 1988).

    Strategies For Constructing Meaning
    “The reader may be questioning, interpreting, or summary content, paraphrasing what the text “is about or “is saying”. The reader’s goal is using content strategies seems to be getting information from the text” (Haas & Flowers, 1988, p. 175).
